Template talk:Militant

I think this tag should be separated into two tags, one for Militant, one for SPEW. While the SPEW is seen to be the successor to Militant, many of the listed members were members of Militant but have had no involvement in SPEW. I did consider that when making the template, but it seems that the Socialist Party is just Militant, having changed their name when they decided to become an open political party. There appears to be a legal continuity between them and the same people automatically crossed over (with the exception of the Socialist Appeal group who were expelled). Placing the LPYS as an affiliated organisation is misleading. I'd agree that it is a suitable subject, but diverse members of the LPYS were strongly against Militant control (see for instance biographical pieces by John Harris or Gary Younge who were both active in the LPYS in the 1980s. The LPYS was, of course, affiliated with the Labour Party, and entryist control as practised by the Militant was contra LP rules at the time. In general the control was usually quite subtle. In addition not all LPYS branches were dominated by Militant, some, for instance, had Broad Left politics. So I'd like to see either a new line or change the affiliated organisation to related organisations. The latter loses some precision. Semudobia (talk) 16:33, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
