Request Galena Park and San Jacinto City Be Added to Enclaves

This is to request that Galena Park be added to the list of enclaves for Houston. Thank you very much. LacrosseCorey 22:29, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is also to request that Jacinto City be added to the enclaves section for Houston. Thanks so much. LacrosseCorey 00:29, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

LacrosseCorey, that's a good point. I'm not sure that they technically meet the definition of enclaves. The two of them do not appear to be surrounded by the city of Houston (see this map of Houston superneighborhoods, which shows that Houston does not border Galena Park on the east side).
However, I also realized that none of the other cities listed technically meet the definition of an enclave, as each one has boundaries with other cities (other than Houston). Perhaps "enclave" should be renamed "island cities" or something more appropriate? Do you have any suggestions? I think Galena Park and Jacinto City are nearly surrounded by Houston, so they probably do deserve mention (under whatever new name we might come up with). Thanks. Thanks for you courteous reply - are you one of the 1,000 or so volunteer expert editors of Wikipedia that I've heard about? I'm new to talk pages, so forgive me if this is more akin to e-mail. I think it's a solid idea to reference "island cities" for the Houston list. I've been editing articles for a two or three years, but sometimes forget to check if I'm logged in or not - I'd like to think you all can tell it's me just by my computer's numerical address, but I don't know. By the way, can you tell me how to edit the name of an article? For example, the article for the Houston neighborhood entitled "Northshore" should be "North Shore". Thanks again so much. You're welcome. No, I'm not one of the "expert editors", but I'm flattered that you might mistake me for such; thanks for the compliment. I did a google search regarding your proposed change. It appears that "North Shore" is the much more common name for business listings in the area (even when searching specifically for "Northshore, Houston"), by about 4:1. "North Shore" even predominates when I search specifically for "Northshore, Houston". However, I did find, from the official map of Houston "Super Neighborhoods", Super Neighborhood #58 is officially called "Northshore." This particular website isn't necessarily free of typos. Do you know of another official website or listing (such as an official neighborhood civic group, development council, etc.), or anything that could better support the case for your spelling? I think such evidence would greatly increase the likelihood that your page move would not be disputed. At any rate, to move a page, just click on the tab that says "Move" near the top of the page (just to the right of "History"). You must be logged in (as "LacrosseCorey", for instance) for this function to be available (and visible). I'm also going to get another opinion on the minor name change from "Enclaves" before I change it. Cheers. Ufwuct 03:36, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
