Template talk:Fly fishing targets

There are some really important target species missing from this template. Perhaps it could be expanded and changed into a "bottom-of-the-page" box rather than a sidebar? Hugely popular fly fishing species missing include: brown trout, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, Arctic grayling, Atlantic tarpon, and bonefish. This template is a device to keep track of fish articles that already have a significant section on fly fishing. Otherwise the information gets buried and somewhat lost. It is a side template because it needs to be beside the relevant section. It is incomplete because it monitors only fish for which something has already been written. There are similar side templates for keeping track of sections written on commercial fishing and sport fishing. I am working on these and developing the sections into articles in their own right (with bottom templates). I'll probably never get around to fly fishing, partially because I don't know much about it. Sorry, I didn't know it was a "work-in-progress" type device. Perhaps the title of the box can be modified somehow to reflect that? At a glance, it seemed to be a non-representative subset in a subject that can be kind of touchy, since angling target species are to a large degree geographically controlled. The current species are eastern North American/Atlantic (except Hucho taimen from Asia), which leaves out nearly all species being fished for in western NA, Alaska, and Europe. Your work in progress explanation makes sense, but I wonder if that intention of the template could be made more clear. --BlueCanoe (talk) 16:14, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
