HIDE_PARAMETER code appears to cause "unsupported parameter" error in some cases

The following citation appears to cause an unsupported parameter error:

{{cite DGRG|wstitle=Elis |volume=1 |page=82 |url=http://books.google.com/books?id=_sYPAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA82|ref=harv}}

Renders as:

  • Smith, William, ed. (1854). "Elis" . Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography. Vol. 1. London: John Murray. p. 82. {{cite encyclopedia}}: Invalid |ref=harv (help)

Paging PBS for a look. I found the error in Xystus. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:32, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • {{cite DGRG|wstitle=Elis |volume=1 |page=82 |url=http://books.google.com/books?id=_sYPAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA82%7Cref=harv}}

I suspect that the error is that a url parameter is set and the parameter wstitle is also set. If wstitle is set then url should not be set. Before the change over to CS1 this error was trapped silently, but it is not is CS1. It is a know deficiency in the CS1 code that it does not have a null parameter (which existed by default before CS1 came into existence). I have asked for a NULL parameter to be created but so far the request has been ignored.

In this case the page does not exist on Wikisource so change a change of "wstitle=" to "title=":

will fix the problem and link to the external source. Let me know if I can be of any more help.-- PBS (talk) 16:19, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect. That works. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:31, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
