L-182

I am wondering whether the L-182 shouldn't be on this list - ref Official DND page Five of this aircraft type were purchased by the Cdn Army and flown as the "L-182" during the 1960s and 1970s, including by air force pilots after unification in 1968. It was retired when the CH-136 came on line after 1970. - Ahunt (talk) 02:14, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's already there. Per this site, the L-182s were assigned CO-119 on redesignation, as were Canadian L-19s (Model 305s). The CO-119 links to the O-1 Bird Dog page, but there is little info on them there. Could use some expansion. But there's probably less info on this variant than on the CT-134, so it's own page is probably not the best thing. - BillCJ (talk) 03:10, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Bill. Thanks for the explanation. It is all a bit confusing, isn't it? I had missed the "CO-119" designation, because the RCAF has designated its C-119 Flying Boxcars as "CC-119". Of course they were gone by 1968. The O-1 Bird Dog page has nothing to say on the subject at all, so it doesn't really cover it. The Cessna 182 page has a little bit, mostly because I put it there. It seems rather dim to have the same designation for two different aircraft, but it is likely given that the air force was in charge of all aviation starting in 1968 and had planned to get rid of both the L-19 and L-182. Still it would be nice if there was a way for this template to point to both the O-1 and Cessna 182 pages, but not sure how that can be accomplished when two aircraft had the same designation. - Ahunt (talk) 14:07, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it is confusing. I've been thinking about options on linking, and thought of several:
  1. Place a link to the L-182 in the O-1 page section covering the 305's in Canada (when it's written!), and put a section link on this template. (I know what I mean, and may rewrite this later to be clearer!) :)
  2. Make a DAB link at Cessna CO-119. This wouldn't make the CO-119 link turn Bold in the CF template on the )-1 and Model 182 pages tho, as preferred by template guru Rlandmann.
  3. Put both the O-1 and the Model 182 links in the CO-119 section, so it would be CO-119/CO-119! Would look odd, but each would show up Bold on the correct page.
  4. Create a page at Cessna CO-119 to cover both models in Canadian service. This fits in with my inclination to try to make articles on every aircraft that served in the CAF/CF when possible, but since they are two different aircraft, some people may think it strange.
Whatever way we go on this will not be perfect, thanks to the mentality of designation bureucrats the world over who do strange things with designations, the US being foremost with some of the strangest! - BillCJ (talk) 18:12, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
