I added an asterik to the NI airports. Technically they shouldn't even be in this template, as they're not Irish, they're British. Depending on your view of NI that is, but as it stands, they are both politically British.

In my opinion they should be removed completly, but I can see them being very quickly added back in. Discuss please. --Dom0803 22:40, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Because technically ROI & NI are in two separate countries within the Island of Ireland. If I wanted to be petty I could have taken out the NI airports and claimed NI has nothing to do with Ireland however I was being pragmatic about it. Conypiece 22:59, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You mean if you wanted to be incorrect, not petty. NI has everything to do with Ireland. Remember Ireland was partitioned, the six counties weren't taken away from Ireland. Ireland on WP (and everywhere else) is the island, all 32 counties. All the airports listed are in Ireland, therefore there is every reason why all the airports should be in the template. The airports from the 6C and 32C are listed separately in the template with the terms "Republic of Ireland" and "Northern Ireland" beside them, theres no need to repeat those terms in the title. However Ireland is in a unique position, for it has got 2 entirely seperate countries within the island, one using the name Ireland and the other not. You see my point? This is a fairly simple point. It was being pragmatic. Also NI airports are mentioned within the UK template, therefore they are not needed on this one. The UK template is not done geographically, it is done constitutionally. There is equally valid reasons for taking the 6C airports out of the UK template as there is to take them out of the Ireland one. But the argument isn't whether or not their in the template, it's about what to call it. Simply put "Ireland" is a better description of the island than "Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland". Clearly the airports in NI need to be associated with both templates. Geographically, airports in the rest of Ireland are of much greater relevance to Northern Ireland than airports in GB. Also - in Wikipedia terms, Ireland refers to the entire Ireland, so this information should follow the same policy. Aaronsc 12:37, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please leave the template alone, with the title "Ireland". Senseless politicking about this is one of the most tiresome things about Ireland the Wikipedia. It's a list. "Constitutionality" has nothing to do with it. -- Evertype·✆ 17:25, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
