Helene Scheu-Riesz

Scheu-Riesz, 1939
Scheu-Riesz, 1939
  • ... that Helene Scheu-Riesz (pictured) created the first German translation of Alice Through the Looking-Glass but struggled with Lewis Carroll's made-up words? Source: "But these problems were child’s play compared to the nightmare facing Helene Scheu-Riesz, who in 1923 produced the first German translation of Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There. Aside from constant puns and indecently long, colloquial poems, Carroll’s sequel added an unprecedented challenge in the form of “Jabberwocky,” seven stanzas of nonsense verse packed with twenty-five invented words".

Overall: @SusunW: Good article. Just want to mention that the Alice through the looking-glass link is a redirect. Onegreatjoke (talk) 18:41, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

Wow, thanks for looking at it so fast Onegreatjoke. I know it's a redirect, but I think it is more familiar abroad (I asked an international group of people) by that title than the whole Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There or just Through the Looking-Glass. Doesn't matter to me how we get to the book, as long as we do. ;) SusunW (talk) 19:10, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
