Birth Place

The birth place in info box reads as Hyderabad India and where as in section it say Qaimgunj, Farrukhabad.

upon my research i found his parents belong to Uttar Pradesh, pashtun family, but Zakir Hussain was born in Hyderabad Deccan. please see britanica online encyclopedia, here, here and here--Omer123hussain (talk) 04:25, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

he was definitely from pashtun afridi ancestry as many of his relatives pages also mention along with all his biographies. Their ancestors immigrated from Kohat https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahimuddin_Khan https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmud_Hussain

real nephew of Zakir Hussain

in the article it has been written that Gen Rahimuddin is the nephew of Zakir Hussain.I have repeatedly mentioned that Anwar Hussain who was the famous tv anchor in Pakistan and was also the managing director of the state media of pakistan was his nephew. he was the eldest son of Dr. Mahmud Hussain his brother.Gen Rahimuddin was his close relative. not his nephew.I have mentioned this fact repeatedly in the article but someone always delete this part.I think this is unfair on the part of the real nephew of Zakir Hussain. someone should take notice of this injustice done to the real heir of Zakir Hussain.and not let the truth be deleted. I am the grandson of Dr. Mahmud Hussain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fehed74 (talk • contribs) 14:50, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No need to mention the religion of a country's president in the first paragraph on general introduction

A country's president is a president of every citizen. Putting him in brackets of religion is not acceptable. No one will ever write that Dr. Rajendra Prasad was the first Hindu president of this 'secular' nation — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shivansh92 (talk • contribs) 17:46, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I completely disagree with you. Former US President John F. Kennedy's Catholic faith is mentioned 22 times in his Wikipedia article. Also a Catholic, current President Joe Biden has 14 mentions. There is good reason to mention a leader's religion, and there is substantial precedent on Wikipedia. Attila412 (talk) 08:24, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Improved to Good Article status by Ashwin147 (talk). Self-nominated at 08:29, 25 May 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Zakir Husain (politician); consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.[reply]

  • I have not reviewed DYK of a GA up til now. I shall try this one out. Bookku (talk) 10:14, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Good well-written article. The given DYK hook is still okay for global audience, so sort of okay, but to South Asian this information is important but may not be novel any more. I would suggest to create alternate hooks either based on his diverse educational background or his doctorate in economics from University of Berlin. Though I am not holding DYK approval for alt options but I am just still to confirm on QPQ requirement. Bookku (talk) 15:16, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    • @Bookku: I've just completed the QPQ. Since the hook is okay for a global audience, let's go with that? Ashwin147 (talk) 12:45, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is an extremely high copyright violation score. Lightburst (talk) 21:35, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Lightburst: When I had checked Erwig my impression had been that only 2 paragraphs of Zakir Husain's widely publicized speech are leading to the Erwig copyvio score but as far as my understanding of WP:NONFREE#Acceptable use the usage of the quote seem to fulfill criteria of WP:MOSQUOTE by duly attributing the same. Would it be possible to have second opinion peer review once more by another Wikipedia copy-right expert, if you do not mind. Bookku (talk) 05:20, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bookku: There are two quotes, regarding the objectives of the Jamia University, taken from the article in the Frontline that have been incorporated into the paragraphs but these are marked as quotes and attributed as well. That should explain the high score for the second source. Ashwin147 (talk) 05:49, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I requested for second opinion @ User talk: Diannaa. Bookku (talk) 06:16, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The only overlapping content that I see is several quotations. Short quotations are allowed. — Diannaa (talk) 13:06, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The discussion here and on the DYK talk page seems to indicate that all is well so I removed the symbol. Lightburst (talk) 13:50, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Zakir Husain (politician)Zakir Husain – Gets more views than the other Zakir Husain. The others listed at Zakir Hussain have two "S"s not one. Also the primary topic and has the most long term significance. Sahaib (talk) 14:06, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - Only Zakir Husain on Wikipedia. The fact that similarly named people exist should not be an impediment to having a concise title. Tim O'Doherty (talk) 22:33, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - Perfect Decision, Unique name and the most notable for India's first Muslim President. No one else conflicts with the same name.
