I think you have raised a valid point however as the original article was written in French it is natural that the author would have relied on local sources - especially when French sources are so abundant and excellent. Had the article been written in California there would undoubtedly be an emphasis on Californian sources. France was the origin of the world wine industry so I feel it is appropriate that an article on the subject would originate from there. The French language is rich in vocabulary describing the nuances of wine and wine-making with English being relatively clumsy. I still wonder if my translation of Bâtonnage which I called "stirring" and Éraflage which I called "shaking" are the best translations. I think also that much of the value of this article is in the extensive cross-referencing to the many other articles on specialised wine subjects which very much broadens its scope. Nevertheless some may feel that there is too much emphasis on France and there is nothing to prevent any editor from modifying it with relevant material from elsewhere if they feel this is appropriate.

Note that many links on references in the article before were bad links but all links should now be valid links.

My objective in translating this article was so that an article that was awarded a gold star on the French wikipedia could be available to English readers. I hope that readers will find this was worthwhile. Improvements in the translation are always welcome.

Many thanks for the explanation. I certainly would not doubt the pre-eminence of the French in viniculture, historically at least. All those terms are very useful and might even be rendered in the original French. Maybe because the article is so well-written (and it's also very well presented) that other editors have been slow to add. But it does look slightly European biased, e.g. "Argentina" appears only twice - once for production and once for consumption. And yes, the Notes and References section suggests that the only useful material about white wine is from France. Hopefully other sources might be added. Is there any reason why there's a usually a letter after the name of the grape variety?
