(Non-)merge from Kala khatta and Ais kacang

I removed the merge tag. This was the firet discussion of the proposal I could find; Kala khatta is already merged (perhaps not properly, but that's another story) and the Ais kacang article seems no worse than any of the ten-or-so other regional shaved-ice desserts listed in the {{ice-based beverages and desserts}} template. -- B.S. Shave ice - Shaved ice

Merge these two articles. They even claim the varieties of other countries -like Brazil's "raspadinha". The way things are, it's a shame to have shave ice and shaved ice at the same time. Get your act together. --176.239.120.239 (talk) 18:41, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of Shave ice into Shaved ice

To not merge, given that Hawaiian shave ice is an indepedently notable subset or variant of Shaved ice warranting separate discussion. Klbrain (talk) 13:01, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Shave ice" is an article about "shaved ice" as it relates to Hawaii. It also contains some useful content about production and ingredients that the main shaved ice article is missing. If the dish is much more significant in Hawaii than any other country, this can be given some prominence in the shaved ice article. Belbury (talk) 15:27, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Many regional shaved ices at least have their own names, but Hawaiian shave ice even doesn't have its own name. So Shave ice should be merged into Shaved ice. --Dollasdal (talk) 10:52, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No need to merge. Simply rename this article to Hawaiian shave ice. We already have it as an alternative name.Kazuha1029 (talk) 04:24, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I oppose merging the two and support renaming "Shave ice" to "Hawaiian shave ice" per the helpful suggestion made by @Kazuha1029. Cielquiparle (talk) 07:54, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also oppose a merge - there is plenty of history and justification for the unique origins and status of this dish as distinct. I support a move to Hawaiian shave ice. - AKeen (talk) 02:11, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In favor of merge. I don't feel the case has been made as to *why* it is preferable to have a separate article for what is clearly a regional variation. Absent this justification, I think the preferable treatment is to have this regional variation as a separate section of a combined article - perhaps even in the "place of honor" (featured) as per @Belbury's suggestion. --Foolishgrunt (talk) 15:18, 28 May 2023 (UTC)(talk) 15:16, 28 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Merge I agree. PJTraill (talk) 10:37, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose the merge now. I edited the article to prep it for merging. After reading the article, however, and having visited Lahaina a couple of years ago (where I tasted my first "shave ice"), there is definitely a difference in style, make-up, and texture between the Hawaiian version and what is called "shaved ice" in Canada and the US, at least. Not to mention the very different history and cultures behind the two treats. I now think the articles should not be merged, and have edited the source page of the merge request more specifically to focus on the Hawaiian variant. There is a difference, and therefore no need to merge; but I will leave the final determination up to those who have been in this debate for the last nine months. PS: I have also moved the article to Hawaiian shave ice for now, as it better reflects the article content. GenQuest "scribble" 07:11, 6 October 2023 (UTC)Note:[reply]
