I changed the name of the article from "mouth (water stream)" to "river mouth". I know that the new name is not perfect, as it seems to exclude the mouths of streams smaller than rivers. However, "river" is already used in front of other terms for disambiguation when "stream" or "creek" could also apply. For example,

• River bifurcation
• River delta
• River island
• River morphology
• River phenomenon
• River source

Although, at least a couple of these could be changed to "stream" instead of "river". I could have used "stream mouth", as "stream" is used by some disciplines for a flowing body of water of any size, but "stream mouth" just does not sound right to me. I don't think the articles should be merged. A river mouth is a particular type of confluence and there is lots of research specific to river mouths and estuaries that are not applicable to all confluences. I think the current article, pointing to confluence for more information is helpful. Admittedly, a little more detail in this page would be good. Oppose. Plenty of river mouths are not confluences (eg, those emptying into oceans, or those disappearing into the ground, drying up in the desert, etc), and there are confluences that are not river mouths (such as canal confluences). Well I've started to expand on this. Does anyone have any comments or contributions? The structure I've picked is broken down into the geomorphology at a river mouth and the motion of the water at this significant change in river flow. This seems to be a good structure to start with, and I think the facts are quite clear on these topics. Is there any particular cultural or economic significance about river mouths?

Another good split would be to talk about whether the receiving water is saline or fresh. The river flow is different in these two cases, as the freshwater is almost always lighter than the saltwater. In the salt water case, ports are often built around river mouths.

A picture would be very good. I'll see if I have any good ones.
