Dead links
The paragraph containing the following text are referencing sources that no longer exist: "MQI has various community related projects which are supported by the Norwegian Government. One of the main projects is the Minhaj conflict resolution or Minhaj Konfliktråd (MKR)." The two sources given are both links to the website of Drammen Moské. Drammen Moské was part of Minhaj-ul-Quran for a number of years, but has since cut their ties to the Minhaj-movement due to what seems to be a conflict. No longer affiliated with Minhaj-ul-Quran is probably why those two links now lead to an error page. In light of this article carrying a warning that the page may contain excessive or inappropriate references to self-published sources and helping to improve it by removing them, should this paragraph be removed altogether? Wrongful deleting
Some time ago i set about to clean up the Norwegian pages about Minhaj-ul-Quran and its founder Mohammad Tahir-ul-Qadri. Everything written on the pages was obvious self-promotion by people belonging to the organization themselves. As I started editing, other neutral contributors starting doing their bit as well, weeding out the glorifying, propagandistic information. Having finished this task, I set about doing a similar task on the English pages as well. After all, the English version on Minhaj-ul-Quran already contained a section about Minhaj-ul-Quran Norway. So, I set about elaborating this section, as well as adding a section about the Danish branch. These two Scandinavian branches has received quite a bit of media attention in their respective countries, and caused controversy. Due to suspicion of self promoting, a warning has been implemented informing that this article may contain excessive or inappropriate references to self-published sources, and furthermore asking to help improve it by removing references to unreliable sources, where they are used inappropriately. However, that is not to say all information coming from Minhaj-ul-Qurans websites are inappropriate and/or unreliable. As to neutral type of information such as dates its different branches was founded is not unreliable or inappropriate just because Minhaj-ul-Quran is the source. Such info is not propaganda. But one user here treats it as such. This user has even managed to seemingly blindly delete a contribution with only third-party sources giving "third-party sources needed" as reason for his deletion. Given the type of contributions I've already made on the norwegian versions, I find it absurd to be treated by this user as if I'm some sort of propagandistic affiliate of Minhaj-ul-Quran. GorgeCustersSabre has been removing content I've written on this article on the grounds of a perceived lack of references. It seems he is pointing to the first paragraph under the section called Minhaj-ul-Quran in Norway. My first contribution to this paragraph read: "The Norwegian branch of the Minhaj-ul-Quran International organization was founded in Oslo in 1990. It was started out by 20-30 people renting two small rooms in Tøyengata at Tøyen in central Oslo. Its number of memberships quickly increased." The source for this information is given as a book by Kari Vogt called "Islam på norsk: Moskeer og islamske organisasjoner i Norge". About a week later I added some text to this paragraph. The text added to the paragraph has the same source - the aforementioned book written by Kari Vogt. After making the edit the paragraph reads: "Having successfully established in Copenhagen during the late 1980's, Ul-Qadri's cassettes and videotapes started spreading throughout much of the Pakistani diaspora community in Norway. In 1990 the Norwegian branch of the Minhaj-ul-Quran International organization was founded in Oslo. It was started out by 20-30 people renting two small rooms in Tøyengata at Tøyen in central Oslo. Its number of memberships quickly increased." GorgeCustersSabre removed this edit citing his reason as the edit being unreferenced. As I've been trying to convey, the source is already there. The same text is found in the Norwegian version of this article, with the same source given. Kari Vogt's book. I'm writing this as an explanation, hoping he will halt his habit of premature removals.
