Dean Lavine drops "of Journalism"

I'm wondering whether perhaps we should change the name of this entry to "The Medill School" given the new dean's changes. Thoughts? nicefriend 17:29, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if there are any active followers of this any more, but it begs another obvious question. The 1920-era documents had "Joseph" at the front of its name. The web site now seems to have dropped the "Joseph"? The article name has too. When did that happen? Image copyright problem with Image:NU seal.png

The image Image:NU seal.png is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. Medill F

The Medill F is actually a grade of 50%, not 0. I know this before I go there and have received one, but I can't find an official source. Anybody know of one?Mimzy (talk) 19:20, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Medill School of Journalism → The Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications — The Northwestern University Board of Trustees officially changed the name of the school on March 11, 2011 (http://www.medill.northwestern.edu/newsreleases/archives.aspx?id=183028). Wait Thanks for letting us know. The important thing to do is fix the lead and infobox to have the new name, and cite the source as you have done. It is quite common to have the full name spelled out in the lead, while a shorter more common name is the article location (URL title). For example, almost all biography articles have only first and last name, or maybe middle initial as titles, while middle name etc. are filled out in the article. See Bill Clinton for example. Especially reasonable if the article title is an obvious shortening like this. Evidence of the name becoming "common" would be at least one independent source (e.g. not an NU press release) with the expanded name. Even its own web site calls itself "Medill" or "Medill School". With redirects it should not be a critical issue, so I would not object if there is a strong consensus for an early move. It would be consistent with the Engineering school name, for example, which has the full tongue twister. But please keep the Lead section as per style guidelines. Agree that wait is appropriate. A quick survey of news articles reveals that the new name has, for the most part, only been used in articles criticizing or commenting on the name change itself. Opppse What Wikipedia naming conventions actually say is that we should use the name most recognizable to readers, which may or may not be the offical name.
