Talk:List of paradoxes

Hegel

The link on Hegel's paradox leads to the entry on Hegel himself. Is this correct? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Timodonn (talkcontribs) 2007-06-15T12:35:39 (UTC)

Probability unity of repeated histories elsewhere in an infinite universe

This list doesn't seem to have the paradox in a literally infinite universe (as opposed to a model universe that is not meant to be taken literally as being spatially infinite) of the unity probability of e.g. the Earth and Wikipedia evolving at other locations in the universe, sometimes with no differences, and at other times with a tiny deviation sooner or later that gradually leads to divergence. Here are at least two sources by serious researchers in proper journals, in case someone wants to start off an article on that:

  • Ellis & Brundrit 1979, https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1979QJRAS..20...37E
  • Garriga & Vilenkin 2001, https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2001PhRvD..64d3511G

I'm not sure if there's a standard name for this - something like "the infinitely repeating identical worlds paradox" seems about right to me. Boud (talk) 09:41, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is no paradox. Neither article mentions any. Paradoctor (talk) 10:35, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It does however have significant overlap with the so-called infinite monkey theorem, which surely someone has described as a paradox, though it's not mentioned in this list. --Trovatore (talk)
Well, if you have sources, by all means. Paradoctor (talk) 22:44, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Criteria

@Paradoctor: you just reverted my addition of the Moving magnet and conductor problem because it is not named paradox, but what is the criteria exactly? There are other articles here that are called just "problem". ReyHahn (talk) 16:12, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The criteria are given in the first line of the article: This list collects only scenarios that have been called a paradox by at least one source and have their own article in this encyclopedia. - DVdm (talk) 16:34, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Should've refreshed before replying. xD Good to see you still around. ;) Paradoctor (talk) 17:06, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The list criteria are in the lead. I fixed the entries you mentioned. If I can do anything else for you, just holler. ;) Paradoctor (talk) 17:05, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have one the ashley paradox

Rick ashley has a copy of up you ask for up but hes never gonna give you up therefor letting you down he cant ignore you as hes never gonna say goodbye he also cannot lie as stated in his song and neither can he hurt you 2A04:4A43:4A0F:E37F:3052:439A:326:FB8A (talk) 18:56, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This list collects only WP:notable paradoxes, ones that have a Wikipedia article to link to. At least for the time being, this is not the case. Paradoctor (talk) 20:57, 5 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
