Talk:Karl Patzelt

Place of birth

There is no place called Craiova or Crajova in Bohemia. The claim that Patzelt was born in Crajova, Bohemia, comes from Martin O'Connor's book and is clearly incorrect. There is Craiova in Romania, but it never was part of Austria-Hungary. I think Patzelt's place of birth must be considered unknown for the time being. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.80.102.137 (talk) 16:40, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Romanian front

While the information about Patzelt's service on the Romanian front as an observer with FliK 29 is correct (also mentioned in Valeriu Avram's 2018 book), this part appears to be wrong "The opposition there was not limited to Romanian fliers, who generally flew inferior airplanes. It also included Russian and French pilots flying superior aircraft; they also usually outnumbered the Austro-Hungarians."

For one, the French pilots on the Romanian front were part of the French Military mission, serving with the Romanian armed forces, therefore, since they were part of the RAC (Romanian Air Corps), their aircraft were the same ones (Farmans, Nieuports, Caudrons, etc.). As for the Russians, at least in 1916, they deployed some 40 aiplanes in Romania, and besides SPAD VIIs (from 1917) and Anatras, they also had the same kind of aircraft that the RAC had, so can't see where the "Romanians generally flew inferior aircraft part, compared to the Russians and French" comes from. And for the "they also usually outnumbered the Austro-Hungarians", as said above, the Russians sent around 40 aircraft in 1916, Romania had around 50 in January 1917 and around 90 in the summer of 1917, while here (p. 14) it is mentioned that Austria-Hungary deployed 150 aircraft in August-September 1916. But since I don't have access to actual Austro-Hungarian records, I can't say if all 150 aircraft were deployed at once. Alin2808 (talk) 18:32, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops! I don't know how I forgot about this prior entry. That Romanian book you discovered looks as though it could be a valuable source to round out this article and Dombrowski...and maybe others as well. If you feel you lack English proficiency, have a try at writing, and I will make sure it reads like it was written by a native English speaker.Georgejdorner (talk) 20:46, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No problems. The source I listed above is in English by the way :) Alin2808 (talk) 23:10, 13 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
