Merge Proposal

I propose to merge Smart City Indore to this article, as the info available there can be very well included within this article itself. -- Pankaj Jain Capankajsmilyo (talk · contribs · count) 03:02, 12 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Pankaj's suggestion to merge both articles, being the writer of the article Smart City Indore, I can state that it would be a very useful if the information can be used in Indore article. -- Vivek Tiwari (mr.vivek0305|talk) IST 20:18; December 12, 2015 —Preceding undated comment added 14:50, 12 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agree that a stand-alone article isn't appropriate, but feel that a better target would be Indore Municipal Corporation; the corporation lauched and run the campaign, and the focus on the project falls within the scope of the corporation. Klbrain (talk) 18:21, 22 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Merge to Indore Municipal Corporation would be best; and link to the section from Indore. Batternut (talk) 18:40, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New addition

We want to add thrre important names to the people of Indore 1. Shri Bhalu Mondhe renowned photographer and padmashree awardee. 2. Architects Himanshu Dudwadkar and Shreya Bhargava. Renowned conservation architects, and UNESCO experts, 3. Mr Sushil Doshi padmashree awardee and famous comentator. These are important people of indore, who represent the city in fields other than films and glamour, all of them have made the city proud in the field of photography, conservation and cricket. Why is there so much empasis on film related people, how come pandit Gokul utsav maharaj a padmashree and padmavibhushan awardee, mrs Janak palta another padmashree awardee from the city working in the field of sustainable energy not in the list. Indore heritage (talk) 16:24, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

reply

I can say that may be Sushil Doshi can be added because his notability can be established here --->https://hi.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%B8%E0%A5%81%E0%A4%B6%E0%A5%80%E0%A4%B2_%E0%A4%A6%E0%A5%8B%E0%A4%B7%E0%A5%80 .. but I Am not sure about others... though you are free to add anybody from any field... there is no emphasis on film related people or any field related people... anyone who is notable can be added but you cannot add CEO'S or managers of every company located in the city unless they are well known enough to have a wikipedia article dedicated to them.. thanks Adamstraw99 (talk) 17:05, 18 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Regional Languages

@TheodoreIndiana: Coming from my talk, you seem to be confused yourself since the link you provided Census 2011 contradicts your POV that Marathi, Punjabi, Sindhi and Gujarati are not sourced. These languages are explicitly mentioned under Indore and a lot of these have higher number of speakers than Malvi and Nimadi languages.
As far as regional language is concerned, it writes "traditionally used within a given territory of a State by nationals of that State who form a group numerically smaller than the rest of the State's population" which means it is the language of minorities. See Jammu article. Secondly, the wiki article also mentions Indian regional languages are: Assamese, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santali, Sindhi, Sinhala, Tamil, Telugu, Tulu, Urdu. These are all official languages of India.

A better alternative would be to only mention the official language (Hindi) and remove the regional part from the infobox like in these featured and good articles : Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and kindly do not delete sourced content based on your POV. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:37, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Fylindfotberserk: I nowhere mentioned that Marathi wouldn't qualify as an RL, but will not qualify as a native regional language. Also, you can't put every single official Indian language unless they are native to the place. One such example would be Jaipur, where Rajasthani is the only regional language despite the district having over 60k Marathi, Gujarati speakers. Same goes for a number of articles on Indian cities, states and districts. None of the edits were made under POVs but rather on multiple sources that were also mentioned on your talk page.
That said, I do support removing the option altogether. As the section abides by The Madhya Pradesh Official Language Act, 1957. —TheodoreIndiana (talk) 19:59, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TheodoreIndiana: Actually I'm not a proponent of keeping anything besides "Official language" in the infobox since it causes ethnic edit warring and POV pushing. Probably that's one of the reasons why featured and good articles on Indian settlements do not have those. You can see that in the last 50-100 revisions, Marathi has also been pushed into the article. Secondly, it gets all more confusing since a lot of languages are considered dialects/sub-language of Hindi in the Census including Rajasthani. Thirdly, I'd believe that some languages like Marathi, Urdu, Standard Hindi, etc which have higher number of speakers in neighboring states can be called "native" of Madhya Pradesh since it is all about reorganizing state boundaries. Consider Bombay Presidency or Bengal Presidency. A Gujarati family or a Bengali family natively living in modern Maharashtra and Bihar regions respectively since British times cannot be called non-native now just because of modern geo-politics. That's my view. However it is a moot point and not relevant to the topic now. Regards. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:13, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Fylindfotberserk: Yes, I do agree with keeping the section limited to 'Official Languages' only. The section looks cleaner as well. Thanks for your contributions. TheodoreIndiana (talk) 13:49, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TheodoreIndiana: You are most welcome. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:51, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"Street food capital of India"

@TheodoreIndiana: You and some IPs (presumably you) intermittently keep adding "Street food capital of India" as nickname of the city: there is no decent source for this claim. Recently, some dodgy website articles have picked this up from Wikipedia - they shouldn't be cited here per WP:CIRCULAR. Please stop adding this claim to the article.

A history of additions:

  • 13 Oct 2015: Added "Food Capital of India" without a source
  • 30 Oct 2015: After this claim was removed, added "The Street Food Capital of India" citing a news article which does not support this claim
  • 13 Jan 2016: After the above addition was challenged and removed, re-added it, this time unsourced with a comment "It is called the Street food capital, do not remove this"
  • 27 Jan 2016: Re-added "Food Capital of India" - again, unsourced
  • 19 Aug 2016: Re-added the claim with a MeriNews article authored by "Ikshit" as source: MeriNews is a user-contributed site that allows anyone to submit an article, and not at all WP:RS-compliant.
  • 21 Jan 2017: Re-added the claim, this time with an additional source -- a Times Food article -- which doesn't support the claim at all.
    • Unfortunately, this time the fake refs went unnoticed for a year, and the supposed 'nickname' was picked up by several websites that source information from Wikipedia
  • 17 Jan 2018: Re-added, now with two sources: a Quora post (which is obviously non-RS), and a The Quint which states that "Indore is known as the commercial capital of central India... calling it the street food capital of India is perhaps more apt." The Quint article/video, which seems to be sponsored by the state's Tourism department, presumably picked up this phrase from the Wikipedia article.
  • 24 Sep 2018: Unsourced addition, from 2620:15c:2c1:200:18b7:435d:f005:3553
  • 02 Jan 2019: Re-added the claim, again unsourced
  • 02 Mar 2019: Re-added the claim without a source, from 2409:4043:2115:538C:737F:7F57:B381:43DC
  • 13 Mar 2019: Re-added the claim without a source, from 27.5.4.80

Founder of city

Add Rao Raja Rao Nandlal choudhary Zamindar as a founder of city Kunal0425 (talk) 15:30, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Provide source please. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:41, 3 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
He is the jamidar of the city but not a founder of it and also there is no any source or document which proves that he founded it. The official evidence of existence of city as per Indore museums is of before 1715 and Raja Rao Nandlal choudhary Zamindar erected Indreshwar Temple in 1741. Atambe05 (talk) 09:57, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The administration of Indore is formed of two tiers—a citywide, and a local tier.

This statement is mentioned in the Government and politics section. What does it mean? Isn't citywide tier a local tier? The source of this information only says it is two tiered. @Cityflaneur13: could you help? Tanyasingh (talk) 11:25, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure what this was intended to convey. Perhaps two tiers of district and the local. Local tier is indeed the municipal (panchayat) government within the 3 tier system of governance.Cityflaneur13 (talk) 12:08, 8 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Basically Tier is a unit to calculate the city ranking. There are 3 Types of cities in india X,Y & Z or you can call it 1,2 & 3 Respectively. You can take a look over this article for reference : Classification of Indian cities - Wikipedia . India has only 6 cities which comes in Tier 1 and Rest of the cities comes in Tier 2 and 3. It has nothing to do with the governance so this texts " a citywide, and a local tier" doesn't make any sense. Atambe05 (talk) 10:04, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
