Using terms as "dubious city management" and expressing personal opinions about a political party ("Hilversum was one of the first towns to have to suffer the setbacks of the reactionary populist movement called 'Leefbaar'"), does not fit with the political neutrality principle of Wikipedia. Neither the party "Leefbaar Nederland" (which Pim Fortuyn stepped out of before his big rise, forming his own party 'Lijst Pim Fortuyn'), nor the local subdivisions of "Leefbaar Hilversum" and "Leefbaar Utrecht" can be considered an ultra-right-wing movement, it's just a right wing party. I took care of the "dubious city management". The facts were wrong anyway... The declining population is caused by smaller families and fewer people per house, in combination with the inability to expand.

I find it extremely annoying that people keep referring to this country as Holland, whereas only 2 provinces are rightfully called that. When referring to the entire country, it is preferable that 'The Netherlands' is used,as that is how the country is called.

Holland is only 2 provinces, namely Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland.

As an Englishman living in Hilversum I totally agree that this article fails to maintain neutrality. I support the comments made above and suggest this article needs strong editing. Martin, Hilversum 30/8/06

Holland is the colloquial English name, it is appropriate to the English language pages as that is what most people will look for information under. In the same way that The Spanish use Holanda, Japanese use オランダ, Bulgarian ഹോളണ്ട്. In fact, delving into translations I can only find two languages where the country is rendered as Netherlands/Nederlands and of the two only Dutch take that form as the primary. • To call Kelly van der Veer a singer is a bit of a stretch, I say we turn it into something like 'famous transsexual and big brother contestant' or something like that, as she is so very open about het sex change and it is the reason for her fame. And I personally missed the singing career?

• I have never heard of "Marijn Prins (1981), self-proclaimed "Ornithologist Extraordinaire". A search on google had only 9 hits which were not even all about someone who fitted this profile and none from any media attention. From a resident: Hilversum is lovely and leafy, very friendly, and with a flourishing town centre. Without any figures for unemployment or crime to quote, all I can say is that they certainly aren't obvious problems, and I do think the town at least deserves to have the sunnier side of its character presented. From another resident: I fully agree with Annamassey. Hilversum is indeed a lovely city in a beautiful setting, surrounded by national parks, woodlands, heather and water. The vast majority of these parks are public, so free for everyone to enjoy. Hilversum also boasts many sports clubs, so there is a lot to do for everyone. Of course, drunken youths sometimes fight it out in the city centre on Saturday night, but if you steer clear from the bars in the city centre after midnight, not a lot can happen to you. So, by international and even national standards Hilversum is a very prosperous and friendly place. I moved to Hilversum from Amsterdam, and trust me when I say that Hilversum is a true oasis of peace and quiet in the very busy urban area around Amsterdam.Jens t 12:49, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From another resident. I live in the centre. There is trouble every weekend. A close friend was beaten to death on the main street.

The town is covered in dog mess and chewing gum. Out on the beautiful heather someone poisons dogs every year. The lakes are gorgeous but over crowded. The road system is a complete disgrace. I have lived here all my life and have seen a once beautiful town made ugly with horrible new buildings. The media park brings no money to the town only traffic files. Culturally the place is dead apart from pretentious art galleries and second rate festivals. However if you want your hair cut we have 354 hair salons. My family is ethnically

Hilversum features a building called Villa VPRO, by MVRDV architect bureau. MVRDV are one of the most famous contemporary architect bureaux in the world, and the Villa VPRO is one of their best-known projects. But there is no page for "Villa VRPO", neither in the English nor in the Dutch Wikipedia. The Dutch article about MVRDV contains a brief mention about Villa VPRO and its year of construction - in the English article the mention is even shorter. The only other reference to this building can be found in the Dutch article about the VPRO organisation.

No articles about the city of Hilversum mention Villa VPRO.

Villa VPRO is a building known (and studied) by architecture students worldwide. I believe it deserves more information in Wikipedia. It would be appreciated if anyone can contribute something about it.

I was reprimanded for not citing some remarks about Hilversum having a notable expat community. Come to think of it, how does one substantiate this, being a resident but not an expat oneself? Public data shows that over 21k of 89k residents are "allochtoon" = migrant and/or migrant descent. International schools based in Hilversum are also easy to locate. But beyond those hard facts? In the table listing Hilversum-based broadcasters I have, as well as making one or two additions, restored the periods of operation shown prior to the changes recently made by User:Ejbaluyot, as I believe those changes, as well as introducing overlaps and discontinuities, to be mistaken for the following reasons:

• The AVRO/TROS, BNN/VARA, and KTO/NCRV mergers (aimed at securing A-status for these broadcasters under soon to be implemented changes to the public broadcasting system) all took place on 1 January 2014. These mergers did not in every case imply the extinction of the previously existing associations. For example, BNN and VARA both still exist as separate associations – but those associations in turn make up the membership of BNNVARA, which is the association which holds the A-status licence to broadcast, and the list is one of broadcasters exercising (or having exercised) the right to airtime, together with the relevant periods. It could be argued that 1 January 2016, when the present concession period began, might be a more appropriate date for the start of broadcasting operations by the merged associations – but, in either case, the date should be the same for all of them.
• In the case of IKON, that organization's last day as an operational broadcaster was 31 December 2015. By that year IKON was already, as part of the VKZ (Verzorging Kerkelijke Zendtijd) Foundation, producing its programmes in collaboration with EO. When the VKZ was wound up on 31 December 2015, IKON therefore also ceased operations on the same date.

Besides being called "media city", Hilversum houses multiple Headquarters of big companies. This could be added below the "Broadcasting" section?

• Converse: American based shoe company that primarily produces sneakers - European Headquarter ^[1]
• Hunkemöller International B.V.: Market leading European lingerie retailer - Global Headquarter ^[2]
• Nike: American brand in sportswear - European Headquarter ^[3]
