Fair use rationale for Image:Handcream for a Generation cover.jpeg

Image:Handcream for a Generation cover.jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:01, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let's get this review started before it hits its six month anniversary in the queue. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 17:32, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've completed the initial review and I've placed the article on hold. Let me know if there are any thoughts or if the article is ready for another look. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 19:04, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Thebiguglyalien: I've added some comments below and made the changes for the rest I haven't commented on. MusicforthePeople (talk) 19:17, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
MusicforthePeople, citation issues have been fixed and coverage issues mostly are rendered moot by the sources. One thing that still needs more detail is information on "Slip the Drummer One". Even just a few more words would be fine. "Slip the Drummer One" includes scratching sounds from Swift. isn't cohesive with the rest of the paragraph, making it feel incomplete. Looking at the sources I spotchecked, the Mitchum source talks a bit about its genre, which is really all it needs. And speaking of genre, the other issues is that the lead still doesn't discuss that aspect of the album, even though the genre experimentation might be the album's defining feature. Those two things are the only things holding this back from good article status in my opinion. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 22:19, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Thebiguglyalien: Added the genre and expanded the lead. MusicforthePeople (talk) 22:43, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Passing the article. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 22:51, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well-written

Prose, grammar, layout, words to watch, and lists are all good. I did some minor copyediting and added a short description. The only issue here is that the lead needs a little work. It leans a bit heavily on background, and another paragraph should probably be written in the lead to summarize the style, composition, and themes, as these currently aren't mentioned there at all. Verifiable with no original research

All sources appear to be reliable. Article is comprehensively cited. WP:EARWIG detected no issues. Spot checked the following for plagiarism and accurate summarizing of sources:

  • [16] Erlewine, Stephen Thomas. "Handcream for a Generation – Cornershop". AllMusic. – Doesn't seem to support "Spectral Mornings" is an 14-minute psychedelic song that channels the 1960s work of Grateful Dead.
  • [19] Mitchum, Rob. "Cornershop: Handcream for a Generation". Pitchfork. – This seems to support everything it's attached to, but there are times where it's difficult to tell what part of the sentence it's supposed to support. The exact quote is the most important one, and that's a clear and accurate citation of the quote.
  • [20] Petridis, Alexis. "CD of the week: Cornershop, Handcream for a Generation". The Guardian. – With the exception of a direct quote, it doesn't seem to support the things that it's attached to in the prose, or at most only supports a few words in a given sentence.
  • [30] "Shop Open for Business!". NME. – Not a major issue, but note that it's better to use sources that are published after the events they cover. For all I know, they never made it to the show that this claims they were going to. Sources that speak in the future tense should probably be replaced.
  • [55] Christgau, Robert. "Music". The Village Voice. – Good. Quotes are accurately presented and not taken out of context.
  • [56] Chorney-Booth, Elizabeth. "CD Reviews: Edwin, 54-40, Cornershop and many more". Chart Attack. – Good. Quotes are accurately presented and not taken out of context.

The sourcing on this article isn't terrible, but it seems to need a quick one-over where there are multiple sources on a sentence to make sure that they support what they're attached to and that it's clear what supports what. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 19:01, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Broad in its coverage

Coverage touches on each major aspect, but there are some missing details, particularly regarding composition of individual songs, that could benefit the article. At least some of them should be addressed:

  • What's the significance of the Rocky film series? What lessons from it are being referenced?
  • "Motion the 11" stands out as a reggae song in what starts as a rock/funk album, but why? What inspired this choice?
  • Same for "Sounds Super Recordings" and "The London Radar": very different tracks that could use context if it exists in the sources.
  • Also, what language is being spoken in "Sounds Super Recordings"? Not critical, but would be nice to have.
  • "Slip the Drummer One" is essentially overlooked. Is there nothing else that can be said about it?
I'm afraid I can't address any of the above points because the sources to these answers don't exist. Googling the band name and "Lessons Learned from Rocky I to Rocky III" brings up mostly useless results, and the ones that are useful are already in the article (e.g. the MTV ref). MusicforthePeople (talk) 19:17, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • What is "Straight Aces"?
I know this won't address the issue, but I had confused the Japanese track listing and mixed up a song title. None of the sources discuss this one, though. MusicforthePeople (talk) 19:17, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • What's the significance of the show they did in Germany? If possible, article should specify whether they performed any songs from this album or not.

Possible relevance issues:

  • The first two paragraphs of "Background and recording" talk about a few things from previous years, but how much is relevant to this album?

Thebiguglyalien (talk) 18:12, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I would argue that it all is – since the background of albums follow the release (and other events, such as Clinton's sole album) of the previous one. MusicforthePeople (talk) 19:17, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Neutral

No neutrality issues. Article gives a fair analysis of positive and negative reception. No individual's opinion is leaned on too heavily. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 18:12, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stable

No issues in edit history or on talk page. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 17:43, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Illustrated

Three images: two under Creative Commons and one with valid fair use rationale. Images of individuals provide context with a suitable caption. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 17:43, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
