The statement "became the first Lieutenant Governor of West Virginia" needs further explanation in the article. If this just means, as I think that it does, that the West Virginia Legislature added "Lieutenant Governor" as a title to the existing office of Speaker of the Senate, as the Tennessee Legislature did in the 1950s, and as I suspect is the case, this is what the article should say. I changed the focus of his title to West Virginia Senate President over Lt. Gov. The latter title was only recently given by the legislature and has not been added to the state constitution and it seems that he tends to use the title rarely and the media almost exclusively refers to him as Senate President Tomblin. youngamerican (talk) 02:40, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tomblin is not governor in his own right - if he is no longer Senate President, he no longer fills the governor's role. The state constitution indicates that in the absence of a governor, "the president of the Senate shall act as governor until the vacancy is filled."[1] It doesn't say the Senate President becomes governor himself.

Looking at newspaper articles, AP [2], Charleston Daily Mail [3], Charleston Gazette [4] all refer to him as the "acting governor". It seems this is the appropriate terminology to use here. Bitmapped (talk) 00:39, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

He is both acting and 35th governor. The Governor's website states 35th as do other news articles... the Washington post [6], Associated Press [7] [8]... As well as other WV Government sites [9]. It is confusing... He now holds the office of governor, therefore the 35th governor. But, the constitution says he only acts as governor. The Governor's website has an official portrait of Acting Governor Tomblin (here: http://www.governor.wv.gov/about/Pages/OfficialPortraits.aspx). Would this image not be in the public domain and not be better than the extremely low-res photo currently on this page?

Since they don't explicitly say so, we cannot assume the images are public domain. They are presumably copyrighted images owned by the State of West Virginia. Bitmapped (talk) 05:41, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A user added an objection to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act section in the article itself. I've moved the comment here since this is the appropriate place.

This section, like many others on this page, is not relevant. WV is currently conducting an election and this page is unfair to this candidate. Please cleanup page immediately.

This is a sensitive time for the article considering how many voters will be checking it up before they vote, but I don't find the section objectionable enough to warrant outright removal. I don't think it's unfair, since the facts outlined in the section are true. As for relevant, maybe it would have been best for the article on the election, but I imagine some mention of the main issues of the campaign - seemingly including this healthcare aspect - are relevant to this article. According to my understanding of this article [10], Tomblin remains Senate President acting as Governor until (1.) the election is certified, (2.) he resigns from the State Senate and (3.) he takes the oath of office as Governor. According to the reference, this could take ten days. Based on that, I think it is premature to list Tomblin as Governor but I don't want to start an edit war. Any thoughts? That is my understanding. I believe that the election has not been certified by the Secretary of State yet. At least neither the Secretary of State's website or the media indicate certification. If I am not mistaken, he has not resigned as Senate President (or as a member of the Senate) and is still acting as Governor. I also agree with you that if he resigns as Senate President before certification (i.e: right now) he would only be the Governor-elect and, according to WV law, the Speaker of the House of Delegates would act as governor until either the election is certified and Tomblin is sworn in or until the Senate elects a new President. Dear Mr. Tomblin..I watched a TV show about the murder of Doc Whitley. Please watch it. How could Jason get life and Tommy go free. It makes no sense. I want to be Jasons voice and I'm nobody. Just a McDowell country girl. Any one could see this was wrong.Please help Jason. This is his life.
