This article was tagged by a self-described deletionist from the UK. Anyone familiar with US politics and history would understand the significance of the VP and National Sec of SDS. As well as Progressives for Obama. --Gary1234 (talk) 18:35, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The purpose of an encyclopaedia is to explain things clearly. Your article is close to incomprehensible and entirely without any independent references. I did think the article was a hoax because the link to Committees of Correspondence points to an 18th century organisation, however I realised that this was a mistake in the link and took the "disputed" tag off and asked for clarification instead. The other tags are correct and appropriate. Instead of addressing the issues I see the above comment. This is not constructive. Please address the issues. My status as a deletionist as irrelevant as I have not suggested deleting the article. I may do so if the article does not improve over next few weeks.
Rather than dwell on that possibility, here is what I think needs doing to rescue the article:
  • Need some independent, secondary sources of reference. These need to demonstrate notability and provide verifiability. If the article is true then this should not be too hard.
  • Need some context so that the article is comprehensible to a general reader, even one from the UK.
  • Need to follow the links and check that they go to the correct places. If they are wrong then fix them.
  • Need basic biographical details such as year and place of birth.
  • Remove or clarify the claim that he was "one of the first American citizens to visit China" as this is nonsense. Americans have visited China for many centuries.
Note: If I do decide to request deletion it will be through that AfD process, which will allow time for discussion. I am not able to delete articles myself, not that I would want to. --DanielRigal (talk) 20:28, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I corrected the (internal) link to "Committees of Correspondence"; and added several (external) links.0XQ (talk) 02:45, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
