"social justice" institution claim

IPs from George Mason University have repeatedly made the claim that this school is a "social justice" Institution. It has been removed in the last month by me, by User:John from Idegon and by user:Archer1234. I have not checked to see if there is a previous history of this edit.

Is there any justification for calling this a "social justice" institution? Some of the attempts to add this claim have been unsourced. The most recent sources it to teh school's 2015-15 planner, but that's not an independent source. Meters (talk) 21:57, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What you are doing, IP, is original research. You have some obituaries of a teacher which state he was a social reformer. You're extrapolating from that that somehow, the school's self-typing as a "Social Justice Institution" is a valid type of school. The only independent source you have is those obits from the WP. The IB directory is information submitted to IB from the school...clearly not independent. Before you could call this secondary school a "social justice institution", you'd have to show two things directly with reliable sources. First, that "social justice institution" is a valid type of school. AFAIK, it isn't. Second, you'd need to show that THIS school is one, according to multiple reliable independent secondary sources is what is generally accepted as a "social justice institution". "Tolle Lege" is part of the of the schools motto (check the schools coat of arms)

We have a reliable source that gives the motto. Not every Latin phrase that is included in the crest is part of the official motto. Unless you have a reliable source that states that "Tolle Lege" is part of the motto, leave it alone. Meters (talk) 22:36, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"Know, Love, Serve" is also part of the school motto (the source bellow breaks it down with definitions)

Use of honorifics and tittles (justification or lack there of)

It does not matter what the original text used. We are not quoting the original text. We don't use them. We only use "Mr. Miss or Mrs when the gender is not obvious from the name, and we only mention degrees when they are being discussed as part of the article. And the meaningless "Esq." is just pointless puffery. Please read WP:MOS . I suggest that you read Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools/Article guidelines for a general idea of what goes in school articles. It might behoove the IP to understand that this ISN'T the school's page on Wikipedia but an independent encyclopedia article about the school. What the school has to say about itself is 100% irrelevant. An encyclopedia is not the place to record information about the school and is definitely NOT a place for the school to communicate.
