Speedy 2010 Gansu mudslide vs 2010 Zhugqu mudslide

This mudslide isn't just affecting the County of Zhugqu. Even though it's the worst hit. It's effecting the whole province of Gansu.--Everyone Dies In the End (talk) 21:46, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, with the same number of casualties I suspected it was just another name. I've now removed the db template and will wait for other editors have their say. Maybe the articles should be merged under the name 2010 Gansu mudslide since it's covering a larger area? jonkerz 21:55, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We don't go by counties/cities any way take 2008 Shanxi mudslide even though that only effected Xiangfen, it is not called 2008 Xiangfen mudslide. Also, here is a quote from npr [1]
Terrified residents fled to high ground or upper stories of apartment buildings in China's Gansu province after a debris-blocked river overflowed during the night, smashing buildings and overturning cars.
The official Xinhua News Agency said Sunday that authorities were seeking to locate an estimated 1,300 people still missing in the latest deluge in a summer that has seen China's worst seasonal flooding in a decade. That figure was down from 2,000 earlier in the day.
Worst hit was the county seat of Zhouqu in the province's Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, where houses buckled and streets were filled with more than a yard (meter) of mud and water.
it goes on to say the Zhouqu is the worst hit and people in the Gansu province were forced to fled. This isn't just effecting one city/county.--Everyone Dies In the End (talk) 22:05, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are right, but my issue is that there are two different articles covering the same mudslide(s), but with different geographical scope. As mentioned in the edit summary when I added the original speedy deletion template I wasn't sure what to do, but believe that the oldest article of the two should be kept, and then moved to the most suitable name. That name is probably 2010 Gansu mudslide, since it's covering a larger area. Given that there should only be one article and the oldest of them should be kept, that means this article needs to be deleted to make room for 2010 Zhugqu mudslide to be moved to this article's name. Really I've no idea, but it's the same reasoning as for keeping the name 2008 Shanxi mudslide and describe what happened in Xiangfen int he same larger article. My 2 cents, best regards, jonkerz 22:24, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need to delete an article to do that. You keep the one that is the best name (In my opinion this one) and delete the other but also request the histories of the two to be merged. A much simpler way to do this. --Everyone Dies In the End (talk) 22:28, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Pages need to be temporarily deleted for a history merge, so one needs to go anyways. Given that you're the only author (+me adding/removing the db template) a cut and paste would actually be easier. Well, that's just technicalities, what's important is the merge so I'll leave this up to you/an admin willing to do a histmerge. jonkerz 22:44, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So your fine with this being the title and the history being merged.--Everyone Dies In the End (talk) 22:47, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest moving the whole article back now, as new landslides have hit the province and we want to avoid ambiguity in the title. ~AH1(TCU) 13:41, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Possible error / inconsistency: At the talk of the article Zhouqu county is mentioned; later on it's called Zhugqu county. This is inconsistent; shouldn't one spelling be used? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2405:6E00:1072:6C00:F507:1BFA:5E96:6890 (talk) 10:32, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
