If United had won they would have made only 34 points, Birmingham won on the final day so must have started on 35 points, so how come United weren't already relegated?Statto74 (talk) 13:43, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
According to this, United still had a match in hand. 1973–74 Manchester United F.C. season says that they played Stoke City two days later. To have any chance, United needed to at least avoid defeat against City and hope that Blues didn't win their match. --Jameboy (talk) 16:15, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
