At the beginning, it is said "Due to Fidel Castro's threat to jail and execute any candidate who participated in the election, Batista-supported Andrés Rivero Agüero was the sole candidate"; however, all of the article talks about 4 candidates.--MiguelMadeira (talk) 03:41, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@MiguelMadeira: The original version of the article had it down as a one-candidate election based on the Dieter Nohlen book. However, an IP added the text about four candidates here and then Sfs90 changed the results table this edit to include four candidates. It seems neither noticed the contradictory text above. My point is that that Fidel promised the People the 1940 Constitution, overthrew a duly elected government

The Background section currently contains only a single sentence claiming that the rebels threatened to kill anyone who voted in the election. The source for this is the "Total War Against Tyranny Manifesto" of March 12, 1958, the link is paywalled, but I found a copy of it elsewhere ^[1] (the manifesto is Appendix D). It does not threaten to kill voters, or even mention the election. I would suggest removing this sentence and revising the section to simply provide a brief cursory overview of the conditions in Cuba at the time.
