Talk:11 November 2018 Mayotte seismic event

Sources

The credibility of this article is seriously undermined in being sourced entirely from the non-scientific popular press, which tends to sensationalistically play up the supposed "mystery" of this event. I point out that "unknown" is not the same as "mystery", especially where the character of "unknown" applies to the shallow knowledge of the popular press. There are scientific reports on this (check with Google Scholar), both on the actual event, and on the social impacts on Mayotte; those should be consulted. And aside from the latter this would be an insignificant, non-notable event – see WP:N(E) – not warranting an article. Note also that that the lack of certain seismic waves shows the nature of the event, and that it was not an "earthquake".

If this article is kept it will need a location map, the location of "Mayotte" being almost universally unknown in the English-speaking world. ♦ J. Johnson (JJ) (talk) 20:16, 13 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
