French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel agree to accept into their respective borders around 400 unaccompanied minors from the Mória Reception & Identification Centre, Europe's largest refugee camp located in the Greek island of Lesbos, which was destroyed by fire the previous day. A shipwreck discovered in the Norwegian trench in April 2017 is confirmed to be that of the German cruiser Karlsruhe, according to Norwegian power grid operator Statnett and a maritime archaeologist. The cruiser was sunk by a British Royal Navy submarine on April 9, 1940, during the opening stages of Operation Weserübung. (Reuters)
3 September 2020 – 2020 Solingen killings
Five children who were siblings are found dead in their apartment in Solingen, NRW, Germany. Their elder brother survived. Their mother, who is injured after throwing herself in front of a train in Düsseldorf, is suspected of the killings. (BBC)
