Michelle Asha Khare (/mɪˈʃɛl kɑːrˈr/;[5][6] born August 10, 1992) is an American YouTuber, television host, actress and former professional cyclist.[7][8] She is best known for her YouTube show Challenge Accepted and HBO Max's Karma.

Career

Khare attended Dartmouth College, studying a self-designed major in digital media and technology.[8] During her studies, she interned at several companies, including Google,[9] DreamWorks Animation,[8] and Carousel Productions.

Road cycling

While living in Los Angeles for her internships, Khare began road and mountain cycling recreationally. She went on to join the Dartmouth Cycling Team and win the US U23 Criterium nationals in 2014.[8] She joined the BMW Women's Professional Team where she trained and raced professionally for the 2014–2015 season.[10][11]

YouTube and BuzzFeed

Khare credits her younger sister with inspiring her to start a YouTube channel. [8]

After graduating in 2014, Khare applied for an opening to be a full-time content producer at BuzzFeed.[12][13] She considers her YouTube channel and early videos to have helped in getting the position at BuzzFeed Video.[8] While working at Buzzfeed there were heavy restrictions on content creators on their own channels because of potential conflict of interest, so her own channel remained dormant.[13] While working at BuzzFeed, she continued her cycling career, creating content focused on health and wellness.[13][9] However, she eventually stopped cycling professionally in favor of creating videos about physical challenges, such as attempting the NFL combine and training as a professional dancer for a month. [12]

When she left BuzzFeed in 2016, she began focusing on her own channel again.[9] Her most popular series is Challenge Accepted, where she tries out grueling training regimens for various professions,[9] including the Navy SEALs fitness test [14] and NASAs astronaut training.[15] Her channel had 2 million subscribers as of April 2020,[16] and 4.18 million as of October 2023. [17] In April 2023, Khare won a boxing match against fellow YouTuber Andrea Botez in Creator Clash 2.[18]

In 2023, Khare was the guest contestant on Season 8 of the YouTube and Nebula travel competition series Jet Lag: The Game. She and her teammate Sam Denby won the season.[19]

Television

She is a host of Karma, a children's competition program that was released on HBO Max on June 18, 2020.[7][20]

Personal life

Khare grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her father Vivek is Indian-American[8] and her mother Laura is of Irish descent. She has one sister. She married Garrett Kennell in October 2022.[21]
