MIT World Peace University,(MIT-WPU) is a private university located in Kothrud, Pune, India.[7][8] It is a part of the MIT Group of Institutions.[9][10]

It is officially named Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University. It was established under the Government of Maharashtra Act No. XXXV 2017 and recognized by the University Grants Commission.

History

Evolution as university

The university was formerly known as the Maharashtra Institute of Technology which was established in 1983 as the first college of the MAEER group of institutions, and was one of the first private engineering colleges in Maharastra. MAEER was affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU),[11] which turned into MIT World Peace University, a private university under the guidance of Revered Prof (Dr.) Vishwanath D Karad. [12]

  • Prof. Dr. Techn. Murthy Chavali: Professor & Dean • Department of Research & Development, MIT-WPU. Ranked among the World's Top 2% of Scientists by Stanford University & Elsevier – 2023[17] study. He was also on the AD Scientific Index [18] (World Scientists Rankings) list consecutively for the fourth time (2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023).
  • Prof. Bharat Kale: Professor Emiritus & Director, center of Excellence-Material Science • Department of Research & Development, MIT-WPU. Ranked among the Top 2% of the Most Influential Scientists (Single Year) in 2023 Stanford University [19]

Social Initiatives

  • National Legislators' Conference (NLC) Bharat - MIT-WPU School of Government, under the mentorship of Mr. T.N. Seshen, former Chief Election Commissioner of Bharat, was established in 2005 to provide formal training to young individuals aspiring to make a political career. Founded on the belief that political leaders must provide effective leadership, regardless of their political ideologies, MIT-SOG encourages learning in civil service.[20]
  • Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad - With the objective of nation-building, the Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (Indian Student Parliament) was initiated by the executive president of MIT-WPU, Mr. Rahul V. Karad in 2011, wherein students from across the country are sensitized about entering into public life or embracing active politics.[21]

Student life

Cultural activities like drama, literary arts and music as well as sports and other activities are very important in student life. MITCOE-ts also have been participating in Firodiya Karandak an inter-collegiate competition where students showcase their talents through plays.[23] MITCOE-ts' regularly participate in linguistic and Marathi play competitions like Purshottam Karandtak.[24] MITCOE remained in the top three ranks of Purshottam karandtak and was the winner of its 2011 edition.[25][26]

  • MIT CREON (art and literary club)[31]

  • Shutterbugs: club for photography, videography and graphic design[32]
  • Students are also involved in activities with external bodies including SAE International,[33] ISTE, IETE, and CSI.

MITCIE regularly takes part in an international robotics event called ROBOCON hosted by MIT in association with Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). The event gets televised on Doordarshan (Prasarbharati) and colleges from 16 nations send robotics teams to take part in this competition.[34] In 2010 a specially dedicated lab for Robocon have been added to the MITCOE. In 2012 MIT college of engineering Robocon team was ranked 6th & in 2013, 14th among 80 engineering colleges including IIT's and NIT's nationwide.[34]

The technical event of MITCOE is called TESLA, which includes competitions, workshops and seminars. It was formerly known as Pinnacle and is scheduled in September each year. Participants from many colleges of India come to take part in this technical event.[35]
