Hunan Television or Hunan TV (simplified Chinese: 湖南卫视; traditional Chinese: 湖南衞視; pinyin: Húnán Wèishì) is a state-owned provincial satellite TV station launched on September 29, 1970. It is currently China's second-most-watched television channel,[1]—second to China Central Television's CCTV-1. Although Hunan TV has occasionally overtaken CCTV-1 in ratings.[2]
Owned by Hunan Broadcasting System, Hunan TV's signal covers most of China, including Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas as (Hunan STV World) in Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Americas, Tajikistan, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, South Africa, Canada, United States, India, Nepal, Africa and Europe. The channel has broadcast in high-definition since September 28, 2009. The appearance of its logo has resulted in the nickname of Mango TV.
History
On Dec 15, 2006, Hunan TV cooperated with BBC to broadcast a new program, “Just the Two of Us”. It is the first entertainment collaboration between Chinese television and the BBC on a global scale.[3]
On May 20, 2009, HunanTV World launched in Hong Kong.[4] It is the first permitted "international channel". Aria Jin served as the "Shoot, Brother!".[5]
Up to the year 2013, HSTV covers over 1 billion of the Chinese population, 358 million of them had claimed to like HSTV's programs. There are 210 million people watch HSTV every day. HSTV's online platform has 730 million views.[6][7]
In 2015, because of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television's policies, HSTV had made prime time television airing from broadcasting 3 episodes per night to 2, and changed the start of airing time from 19:30 to 20:00. It is the only channel that airs drama at 22:00 other than CCTV.[8]
In 2017, the Hunan provincial committee of the Chinese Communist Party criticized Hunan TV as a "platform for gay entertainment" and for having "failed to fulfill the mission of being a mouthpiece of the Party."[9][10]

On 31 August 2020 at stroke of midnight, Hunan Satellite Channel was officially all analog broadcastings officially full-time completely turn off so the digital terrestrial television of the Changsha fully turned, shifted and switched to all full high definition for all Hunan Province. On 29 September 2020, Hunan Satellite Channel officially celebrated its fiftieth years of birthday and anniversary its golden jubilee.
On 30 September 2020, Hunan News officially opened broadcasting on new newsroom and officially very first 4K ultra-high-definition studios officially very starting on same day leaving the old newsroom and farewell from standard-definition studios after the broadcast on 29 September 2020. This move also brings an overall change for news graphics, subtitles and the upgrade of hardware.
Two-half year later as of 1 October 2021 (Disney Networks Group Asia Pacific officially closing ceremony), Mainland China and China officially main number one winner complete Champions largest high-end free-to-air terrestrial television and satellite television station officially moved, revised, back and return handover to CCTV-1.
