Phillipines

The phillipines were still a US possesion in 1945, they did not recieve indepenence until 1946. They should be shaded blue.XavierGreen (talk) 16:23, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dominions

Why are the Dominions (Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa etc.) not shaded Teal? They may have had some degree of autonomy, but they were still a part of the British Empire and should be indicated as such on the map. The C of E. God Save The Queen! Yes, this map is completely wrong, the British Empire included all of the above. Twobells (talk) 13:55, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's difficult to say when the Dominions became independent/broke from the British Empire because they did it in steps. A key piece, however, is the Statute of Westminster 1931, which effectively gave legislative independence to the Dominions. Canada and South Africa adopted it that year, and Australia adopted it in 1942. Although they continued to have some constitutional ties (until 1982, 1961, and 1986 respectively), the statute for the most part made them independent from the UK.
New Zealand did not adopt it until 1947 which is why for the purposes of this map it is still shaded. Also, Newfoundland was separate from Canada until 1949 and never adopted the statute. I know this reasoning isn't perfect, but I do think if the dominions were to be colored they need to be a unique teal/green color to denote their status. -ZaidRock11 (talk) 22:27, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
