Poor colour selection, if I read it right, red is "good", i.e. few suicides, blue is middle, and yellow is bad, menaing high rates of suicide. Highly counterintuitive.

I'm not sure why Israel/Palestine is in the lowest group on suicides; unless the news is misleading or suicide bombers don't count they should have a fairly high rate. 152.7.57.14 (talk) 02:30, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like this has bee changed once, but a chorpleth map like this that only uses one color (in this case green) should move by lightness, not hue. This is set up by hue, so at a first approximation it looks like the U.S., etc. have higher suicide rates than Russia, etc. Can someone fix this? The suicide rates for India and China (>40) you mentioned is wrong! I guess you took the numbers from "Times of India: India, China have highest suicide rates in the world" Actually the author of that article misunderstood the year reported (1998 and 1999)as the suicide rate (98 and 99 per 100,000).

Times of India: Suicide is fast becoming one of the leading causes of death in the country. According to WHO's latest suicide rate estimates, India along with China holds the dubious distinction of having the highest suicide rates in the world.

While in China, 99 out of every 100,000 people commit suicide annually, for India, it stands at 98 per 100,000 population.Worldwide, suicide rates have increased by 60% in the past 50 years, mainly in the developing countries. Most suicides in the world occur in Asia, which is estimated to account for up to 60% of all suicides.

Echoing the comment above, please fix the map using WHO data, and ignore what the Times of India have to say on the matter (as a general principle, for reasons of accuracy, it is usually prudent to ignore everything the ToI has to say on a given issue). The Indians and Chinese are not remotely as suicidal as you make them seem.
