Is it the fight between China and India or fight between Pakistan and India? Why is there light green and dark green color for India? Maybe even some separatist state(s) in India? (like in Yugoslavia?)

RE: Light green and dark green controversy.

Officially INDIAN map consists of both the light and dark green regions. Nobody can disassociate those region from INDAN map because it is not declared as International Borders. But there are some issues and/or fight between Pakistan-China and INDIA regarding kashmir region.

It all started with the invasion of light green portion of Kashmir by Pakistan and then to prevent any further counter attack by INDIA to fight back the invaded land, it cowardly (out of evil foriegn policy) handed over the Right-Hand-Side (RHS) of that light green portion to China. It did so to prevent INDIA from taking over the Kashmir from it because if INDIA does that then it must take back the Chinese portion and if INDIA does not take Chinese portion then it will cry foul.

So, this is the complete information regarding that dispute. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.197.3.48 (talk) 10:25, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

please refer to GOOGLE MAPS for the correct map of INDIA. It has been clearly shown there that Kashmir was,is and WILL remain an UNSEPERABLE part of INDIA. the pak occupied kashmir region has been wrongly depicted and the light green region has been greatly exaggarated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.184.195.169 (talk) 07:00, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Areas the Indian government doesn't control should at least be a different colour from the areas they do control. Though as its claimed territory both should be on the map in some way. The current version seems fine IMO. -- Eraserhead1 <talk> 00:41, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Map

There is no explanation for the incorrect political map of India. The regions shown in green are since the Independence of India, under the control of the Indian Government. Please correct the map of India as per the Official Map of India published by the Government of India. This amounts to defamation of the republic of India. Kindly take cognisance of the error. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.72.253.46 (talk) 08:34, 24 March 2012 (UTC) The map you have uploaded is inaccurate because Jammu & Kashmir is always a part of India. Do not highlight it in light green color which is the color of Pakistan.[reply]

Pointed rant on the general problem of under-described image uploads on Wikipedia

I've noticed this many times that images are uploaded to Wikipedia containing internal conventions about what is shown or not shown, and how. This often concerns the use of colours or labels, but it's conceptually a broad category. This is fine. You can't make a map (or most images generally) without making a few decisions along the way. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be a cultural norm for image designers/uploaders to bother to explain these choices on the image upload page, where such a disclosure properly belongs.

Take a look at the comments here. Various Indian homeboys (and homegirls) have unilaterally decided that light green is the colour of Pakistan and so the use of this colour is a crime against humanity (as constituted in Indian national pride). It could also be that light green is the colour of dispute, meaning that notably different people in notably different places have different opinions. Instead, by saying nothing (as far too many image pages tend to do) this upload page leaves the matter wide open to partisan interpretation. How's that working for America these days? How is that likely to work with two neighbouring nuclear superpowers with a long tradition of violent agreement in not entirely getting along?

So now we have all these comments where the map is declared "incorrect" because various well-intentioned souls (no doubt) have arbitrarily decided for themselves what the undeclared light green coloration signifies. Under this condition the image can't ever be 'correct', because the signification is left dangling here as an open variable.

For my money, this particular aspect of the image culture on Wikipedia has abandoned its marbles to a barrel full of unruly partisans.

[*] "Marbles" in English idiom is synonymous with maintaining internal cognitive order any functional rung above total eccentric dissolution (by tradition, shockingly weird British people who continue to live independently, but no-one entirely knows how). — MaxEnt 16:15, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone please Fix the orthographic image of India

Orthographic image of India is outdated and low quality with not proper shape of country, for example you can see sharp edges and no detailed curved corners. this is so disrespecting considering the map of other neighbouring countries like China , Pakistan and even Nepal have proper defined areas and boundaries of the countries. so i request any technical expert to take look at this matter and redesign detailed orthographic map of India.
