File talk:Chennai suburban rail and bus interconnectivity map.png

Great work on the map.Time circles was a great concept.

1. Can Royapuram - South India's First Railway station included in this map. May be greyed or some other color to denote its extinct. Just saw that.

2. How can others edit this map? Should this be created using any specific tool? Srikanth \talk \contribs 19:03, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Royapuram is still in use btw. This map is not editable like my other svg maps. if you do want to make corrections you have to add it using any graphic editor like gimp/inkscape-- PlaneMad|YakYak 20:54, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Corrections / Clarifications / Suggestions

1. I dont get the road that diverges at Maraimalai Nagar towards Thiruvannamalai. If you are referring NH 45, please delink after Paranur and Make the line end closer to Villupuram, Not Thiruvannamalai. {Current map misguides a road user from MM Nagar to Thiruvannamalai }

from what i could make out from the road maps, tindivanam buses bypass chengelpet. thats what i wanted to show, but i'll admit its not the best way of doing it.
Yes Correct. Well just a random thought, initially was confused seeing road at MM Nagar.

2. I would like to see eastern part of city completed. Proposed rail network along OMR / buckingham Canal. A dotted rail line starting from Perungudi? to denote proposed line to CUPJ via Mahabalipuram,Pondy. And Road(OMR{21H,568}) to Mahabs.Mahabs may be parallel to Chengalpet on the right. Extend Road from Kovalam to Mahabs to denote ECR.{SETC,588}

ive made the map keeping a current traveller in mind. no point including proposed projects unless it is in some stage of visible construction. will include mahabs, totally forgot about it.
Fair enough.

3. There is no proper bus route road along Poonamallee to Arakkonam. Poonamallee to Tirutani is via Thivallur{SETC}. But Arakonam to Tirutani road still need to exist as its part of SH58 from Kanchipuram to Tirutani.Kanchi to Arakkonam road(Not mapped here). I dont know why Arakkonam to Kanchi rail line is dotted. Its should be a full line as already there is a express train running on this track(Its not a double track though i guess)

that was a guess from the apsrtc chithoor buses that ive seen taking the arakkonam road after poonamallee. so ill make it pml-trvllr-tirutanni? shall include kanchi-ajj road as well as rail. thought it was under conversion but now i remember it was being electrified, will fix.
Well if you have seen APSRTC , keep the road,Change the provider. But SETC goes via pml-trvllr-ttn.CJ-AJJ link will be fine.

4. Link a Road from Thirumayilai to Adyar to complete 29C. This is not must if it affects readability / neatness.

adyar and kasturibai nagar are pretty far apart. shall include kasturibai ngr - egmore 23c link though.
49 / 23C dont go on same line till Guindy? Will watch the updated map, check routes for this.

5. For the road from Chengalpet to Kanchipuram, make the route as V512. Create a link from Vandalur to this road to denote route of 79 / 579AC.

if the vandalur-kanchi route is not frequent no point adding it. will need to show only ideal bus connections, not every possible one
I really dont know the frequency of the route.Merely know a route exist and have seen few buses.

6. Form a small triangle between 76B and 102 near Kanchipuram as 102(NH4/46) doesnt touch Kanchipuram.

such minute details i think is unnecessary. i even plan to do away with the chengelpet bypass. i think we can safely assume that anyone who uses this map will make sure where the bus is going before he boards it. this map is only a simpified travelling aid, not the definitive one stop guide for getting around in the buses and trains
Yes this was very minute.

7. SETC/TNSTC Busses from Chengalpet to Koyambedu via Tambaram also halt at Guindy right before the Kathipara Jn. Could this be included in the route? Suraj (talk) 13:47, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well this map is primarily Rail map with bus links to it, So bus routes are limited and not given the importance. As you could see there is very little space to add after Tambaram before Guindy. On other news just asked PlaneMad to do a bus centric map of city with connecting rail transit lines. Stay tuned. Srikanth (Logic) 15:08, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More suggestions

1. Mahabs is a 'Big Big' Tourist spot. T missing - Must

done

2. OMR is still missing. Just thought Sholinganallur ala IT spot of Chennai should be map. Vertical Line from Tiruvanmiyur station and Shols parallel to Tambaram should be fine. 21H / 568.- Must.Shols to TBM = T51,OMR Extension to mahabs - optional

done

3. Road from Mahabs to Chengalpet?-optional {TNSTC} .

done

4. On second thought, Chengalpet to Kanchi should also be TNSTC. SETC apparently has only one service enroute for the whole day.Same with Kanchi to arakonam- SETC nill.- factual, optional.

done

5. Nice to see 79 route added.Actually the road joins the CGL - Kanchi road with near Palur station and doesnt go all the way till Kanchi. - factual, optional.

done. looks like the road meets at walajabad and not palur, from maps

6. The route 517 should join Vandalur from Kovalam. - factual, optional

done

7.Mamallapuram has a single m and double l. -Typo,must.

done

8. Include recently introduced Chennai - Vellore EMU. I think its starts from Vellore Cantonment.. Extend EMU from AJJ to Katpadi, Have a EMU terminal at Vellore Cantonment which should be in between Katpadi and Vellore. Infact Vellore Cntmnt to Vellore is closed for Gauge conversion. There is only one service in this line right now, so tagging this EMU line as optional.

changed vellore to cantt. one service is too less to add. also will not have place for stations along ajj-katpadi. and i dont intend to increase the dimensions of the map

9. CGL - CJ V512 is actually operated by MTC. and i dont see the MTC in the notes.

done

Notes

1. Optional changes can be made if it doesnt affect readability.

2. The notes on the summary of file is good and the map need not be factually 100% right so that some readability can kept.

few more additions

Great map. See if you can add few more things like 1) north line ends up at Bitragunta beyond Nellore, 2) west line at Jolarpet, 3) west north line at Tirupati and 4) south line at Villupuram. -- Coolguyche17 (talk) 18:05, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

the map is primarily for emu lines which are most frequent, i could keep extending the scale for one or two memu's or passenger trains, but this would no longer be a chennai suburban map. tirupati is interesting, have they extended the tiruttani emu's that far? -- PlaneMad|YakYak 16:43, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

1.We have Gummidipoondi-Nellore-Gummidipoondi service listed in Southern railway's suburban page.[1] This service was started in 2002/03. Thats an old 2008 time table. The EMUs were extended to Gudur and MEMU was extended to Bitragunta later.

2.Regarding Tiruttani EMU, they did not extend it to Tirupati citing operational and safety concern.[2] But we have a MEMU from Chennai Central and quite a good no. of psgr trains from Katpadi, Arakkonam, Gudur, etc.

3.Regarding Vellore, we have MEMU to vellore cant. from Beach. Vellore Cant. - Villupuram section is getting ready now after which we can expect few more MEMUS in this route.

4.Regarding Villupuram, we have MEMU from Melmaruvathur and passenger trains from Tambaram. Also 1 MEMU from Chennai beach to Melmaruvathur.

5.Finally Jolapettai, we have 2 MEMUs from Arakkonam and Chennai Central and a no. of passenger trains from Arakkonam, Katpadi, etc.

Am not sure about including Jolarpet and Tirupati, but others can be included in the suburban map. Mabbe these sections can have a separate note saying "limited service"?

Corrections on bus routes.

1. Poonamallee - Tiruvallur we have frequent MTC buses 501, 597, 566A, 596.

2. 596 route runs from Tiruvallur- ponamallee- maduravoyal - CMBT and not via Avadi.
