English: The Mongol rulers, who were afraid of rebellions, created a clan of slave warriors, mostly of Turkic origin and Christian faith, who were taken away from their parents as children. [1]

Их обращали в ислам и посылали в Северную Африку. Эти воины стали известны под названием мамелюков, что означает «находящиеся в подчинении».
