English: Detail of a situation sketch of the siege of Haarlem in 1572-3. The sketch is taken from the perspective of the Spanish camp at Huis ter Kleef. It is a bird's eye view of Haarlem as seen from the North. On the left is the Spaarne river and on the right of the road to Haarlem is the Dolhuys complex, where Willem Janszoon Verwer was regent and wrote his diary. Clearly visible to the left of the Dolhuys is the gallows.
