Empire Way is now Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Item 49651, Yesler-Atlantic Neighborhood Improvement Project Survey Photographs (Record Series 1627-04), Seattle Municipal Archives. Seattle Municipal Archives changed its URL scheme circa 2022; the older URLs beginning with "clerk" are deprecated, and will eventually fail. "Enco" and "Humble" were two of the names used for what later became "Exxon" gas stations; at the time, the "Humble Oil Company" used "Enco" in areas where it was not allowed to use "Esso" (because "Esso" derived from "Standard Oil" and a different company -- in this case Chevron -- had the right the "Standard" name in that state. |
