DescriptionRNLI Memorial - Loch Promenade - Isle of Man - kingsley - 20-APR-09.jpg
English: Memorial on the Loch Promenade to Sir William Hillary and his crew who safely rescued the sailors from the St George which had shipwrecked upon Connister Rock (St Mary's Isle) in 1830. This accident prompted Hillary, who six years prior had founded what would become the present-day Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), to push for the construction of the Tower of Refuge.
The plaque at the bottom reads "Sir William Hillary & his volunteer crew go to the aid of the stricken St. George 20th November 1830".
