Nederlands: Paviljoen Welgelegen

Aan de noordkant van de Haarlemmerhout vinden we Paviljoen Welgelegen, dat vroeger Hofstede Welgelegen werd genoemd. Het pand werd in 1769 gekocht door de Amsterdamse bankier Henry Hope. Hope liet de bestaande hofstede slopen en liet er tussen 1786 en 1789 een villa bouwen: Paviljoen Welgelegen. Het huis is gebouwd in de stijl van het neoclassicisme, een stijl die niet vaak voorkomt in Nederland. Er is onduidelijkheid over de architect van het gebouw, er zijn twee gegadigden: architect J.B. Dubois en Leendert Viervant. Hope had het huis bedoeld als cultureel buitenverblijf waarin hij zijn kunstverzameling ten toon wilde spreiden. Een groot deel van zijn kunstverzameling bestond uit werken van Italiaanse schilders en beeldhouwers.

De loden beelden van Righetti in de binnentuin van het huidige Welgelegen zijn daar nog getuigen van. De Haarlemmerhout bestempelde Hope tot zijn openbare voortuin. Hoewel de Haarlemmerhout geen eigendom was van Hope had hij blijkbaar veel macht en daarmee invloed op het bestuur van Haarlem. Met de gemeente Haarlem kwam Hope in ieder geval overeen dat de Haarlemmerhout opnieuw beplant zou worden. Bij de herbeplanting werd rekening gehouden met het zicht op en uitzicht vanuit het Paviljoen. Vanuit het huis werd een zichtlijn gevormd door boomgroepen zo te groeperen dat een diepte-effect ontstond. Hope kon daardoor vanuit zijn huis ver uitzien over het bos. Oude bomen werden daarbij zoveel mogelijk behouden.

Het paviljoen dient sinds 1930 als provinciehuis van de provincie Noord-Holland.
