Op de grens van de Stadsregio: Afferden, een van de parels van de gemeente Druten. Maar… gaat de deze parel aan de neus van de Stadsregio voorbij? MAAS EN WAAL - Druten en West Maas en Waal mogen niet toetreden tot de Stadsregio Arnhem en Nijmegen. Dat hebben Gedeputeerde Staten van de provincie Gelderland dinsdag besloten. GS wilden geen verklaring van geen bezwaar afgeven. Die verklaring is nodig om beide gemeenten te laten toetreden. De provincie vindt dat de stadsregio niet te veel mag uitdijen, terwijl beide gemeenten in Maas en Waal vinden dat met opname in de stadsregio een weeffout hersteld wordt. Voor ons is de afweging waar je binding ligt. En dat is bij het Rijk van Nijmegen, aldus de Drutense burgemeester Luciën van Riswijk. De gemeenteraad van Druten wil al jarenlang aansluiting en men gaat ervan uit dat de Stadsregio nu de aanvraag tot toetreding bij minister Ter Horst van Binnenlandse Zaken zal neerleggen.
