English: Countries (modern boundaries drawn) where Chinese characters were/are used in its official/dominant language or at least one of its official/dominant languages.
  • !Dark Green - Traditional Chinese characters used exclusively or almost exclusively (Taiwan, Hong Kong (with english), and Macau (with portuguese)).
  • !Medium Green - Simplified Chinese characters used formally but traditional characters continue to be used widely (Singapore and Malaysia).
  • !Green - Simplified Chinese characters used exclusively or almost exclusively (Mainland China), other official scripts are also used among some minorities areas.
  • !Light Green- Chinese characters slightly simplified (shinjitai) used in conjunction with other systems of writing in the same language (Japan).
  • !Light Yellow - Chinese characters were once used in the official language but is not used any more (South Korea, North Korea, Mongolia and Viet Nam).
Français : Pays (frontières actuelles où les caractères chinois sont ou ont été utilisés pour écrire les langues officielles ou domainantes.
  • !Vert foncé - Le chinois traidtionnel est utilisé exclusivement (Taïwan, Hong Kong (avec l'anglais), et Macao (avec le portugais)).
