« Il y avoit dans ce tems-là dans Toulouse un lieu public, qu’on appelloit Château Vert, situé à Pré-montardy. Cette année un prédicateur fort éloquent et de sainte vie, nommé Frère Matthieu Menou, cordelier, estant venu en cette ville, gagna par ses prédications un grand nombre d’âmes à Dieu et convertit beaucoup de filles qui se prostituoient dans ce lieu public. Il les porta même à se cloîtrer. Pour cet effet les capitouls achetèrent une maison à la rue des Couteliers ; c’est aujourd’hui le couvent qu’on nomme les Repenties ou de la Magdelaine. (…) Afin de donner une règle à ces filles repenties, on fit venir de Paris huit religieuses de Sainte Magdelaine » (G. de Lafaille, Annales, t. II, p. 7).
