Detail of a copy of lost painting by Leonardo da Vinci. Possibly painted in Milan as a variation on The Virgin of the Rocks, the painting has a background of rocks (not shown) and plants related to everything Leonardo drew in his studies of natural forms. The anemones (bottom right) are superbly painted. A number of versions of this composition exist.
