Summary
DescriptionLambeth flood refugees.png
English: Refugees from the 1877 floods at Lambeth, London, photographed by John Thompson. The floods were caused by the Thames overflowing the river wall, the height of which should have been increased, but was not. Frontagers asked what was the point of doing it if their neighbours would not do the same.
This photograph was published in Adolphe Smith and John Thompson, "Street Life in London" (1877) by the Woodburytype process of printing, and reissued in 1969 by Benjamin Blom, Inc, New York and London..
