Description
English: Made by Local boulders,this Shiva temple is situated on the hill top of the Khakparta Village. This temple is erected directly on the surface of the hill without having any foundation. there is a narrow entrance of one meter height to the temple facing east. A Shiva Linga is installed in the Grabhagriha which is presiding deity of the temple. Planned in the triratha, the shikara of the temple is crowned with an amlaka. The height of the temple is about four meter. This temple has the same style and affinity with those of deol type shrines of Odisha that have come of during the medieval period. Recently, the Archaeological Survey of India has exposed group of small temples through scientific clearance in the foot-hill areaand all the temples are dedicated to lord Shiva as all excepting one are having Shiva-Linga installed in the Shrines.

Shiva Temple located atop a mountain at Khekparta Village, around 8 km from Lohardaga in Jharkhand, is unique as the Shiv Mandir is constructed directly on the surface of the hill without any foundation. Khakhparta temple is a protected monument. The temple is believed to have been constructed between 9th and 10 century AD. The architecture of the small shirne is similar to Nagar Style prevalent in Orissa. The main temple consists of a Shivling. There is a murti of Ganesha, Surya and Nandi in front of the temple. Shivling without any temple cover is also found in the complex. There is no priest or worship practice. Devotees do their own pujas and worship. The temple attracts huge crowd during Shivratri and Shravan month. Khekparta Shiv Mandir is around 90 km northwest from Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand.
