Построен Харьковским заводом транспортного машиностроения в 1948 г. Является модификацией тепловоза ТЭ1 для работы в условиях Крайнего Севера. Работал на Московско-Курской, Северной, Оренбургской и Туркестано-Сибирской ж.д. Поступил в музей из УМ треста Южурал-трансстрой г. Челябинска в 1992 г.

Built by the Khar'kov Transport Machine-building Works in 1948. This Is a modification of the class TE1 diesel locomotive for use in the extremely low temperatures of the far north. Worked on Moscow-Kursk, Northern, Orenburg and Turkestan-Siberian railways. Received by the museum from the UM Trust at Cheliabinsk in 1992.
