La statue figure le 6ème disciple : Bhadra ou Tamrabhadra, cousin du Buddha, envoyé par lui à la tête de 900 arhats, à Ceylan. Le terme sanscrit Arhat (chinois : luohan) signifie "Celui qui est digne de révérence". Il qualifie dans le bouddhisme les renonçants détachés de l'illusion de ce monde perceptible.
