English: Detail, calotte is filled with colored muqarnas. Niche from the district of al-Malik az-Zahir, Damascus, Syria. 15th-16th century CE. This is not an Islamic niche of a mosque, but a Jewish type niche that belonged to Samaritans living in Damascus. It came from a house. There are quotations from the Torah in Samaritan script. Islamic Art Museum (Museum für Islamische Kunst), Berlin, Germany.
