Español: Chaitén(en huilliche, canasto de agua) es una comuna y localidad chilena, ubicada en la Provincia de Palena, X Región de Los Lagos. Chaitén es la principal ciudad y capital, tanto de la comuna homónima como de la Provincia de Palena, siendo una de las puertas de entrada a la Patagonia chilena.
En mayo de 2008, la erupción del cercano volcán Chaitén provocó la evacuación de todos los habitantes de la comuna, convirtiendo a Chaitén prácticamente en un pueblo fantasma. |
