DescriptionCONTINENTAL POWDER WORKS AT FRENCH CREEK, NORTH CHESTER COUNTY, PA.jpg
English: A GUN POWDER MILL WAS ESTABLISHED HERE IN 1776 BUT LASTED ONLT ABOUT 9 MONTHS BECAUSE AFTER THE LOSS AT THE BATTLE OF BRANDYWINE WASHINGTON ORDERED ALL THE MATERIALS MOVED FURTHER WEST TO HUMMELSTOWN. SEVERAL DAYS LATER A TROOP OF HESSIANS ARRIVED AND DESTROYED THE ENTIRE COMPLEX. THIS PICTURE SHOWS ALL THAT IS LEFT FOLLOWING AN EXCAVATION OF THE RUINS OF A POWDER MILL.
