English: Sailing ship in which the administrator travels around in the Orembaai, Ceram, Moluccas
Nederlands: Negatief. Slechts een gering percentage van alle reizen tussen de Molukse eilanden werd door stoomschepen uitgevoerd. Verreweg het meeste transport van mensen en goederen over water vond plaats in betrekkelijk kleine zeilvaartuigen en roeiboten. Het op de foto afgebeelde vaartuig is een orembai (of orembaai), een type dat in de Molukken gebouwd werd en waarvan VOC-ambtenaren al in de 17e eeuw gebruik maakten. Dat wil niet zeggen dat er in al die tijd aan de gebouwde types niets veranderd was, maar het basisprincipe was hetzelfde. Ook nam men al vroeg 'oosterse' scheepstypes waar die 'westers' getuigd waren. Wat niet veranderde was het feit dat de bestuursambtenaar ook in 1940 nog in een zeilboot 'tourneerde'. (P.
